Martin Staffolani

School Director

We, at CET Vancouver, have a team of professionals with multilingual and multicultural experiences, we understand students as we understand ourselves as growing human beings. It is difficult to recognize ourselves and the world around us in a global environment in which technology is impacting our lives in ways that we have never imagined before, and at a pace that is challenging us more and more. In today's world knowledge becomes obsolete in matters of months. We understand this challenging new world for students and, at CET Vancouver, are honored with your trust in us, especially since we share a common mission in helping you grow as a person and as a professional.

Cameron Metcalf

Academic Coordinator

Cameron has called Vancouver home for the past two years after teaching English in Seoul, South Korea the previous eight years. He is the third generation of his family to choose teaching as his profession.  In his ten years of teaching ESL, there is no better feeling than watching his students grow in confidence and fluency while using a second language.  Having lived abroad in Korea for so long, he loves hearing about his students' experiences of learning and living in a different culture.  Cameron was in the French Immersion program from kindergarten until graduating high school so he speaks English, French and now understands Korean.  This makes him sensitive to the struggles students face learning a new language. He is excited to meet, learn from and teach new students from all over the world.

Victor Tykva

Program Administrator

Victor is the Program Administrator at CET Vancouver and he will be happy to help CET students with any questions about living and studying in a friendly Canadian environment. He immigrated to Canada from Russia where he obtained his degree; he also has been connected with educational industry for the past five years as an instructor and administrator. He would also like to share with you his interest and experience in education, traveling, and reading.

Shane Chaffey

Instructor

Shane was born and grew up in Edmonton Alberta, Canada. During his primary and secondary schooling he became keen about history and culture. His interest in these subject areas was the reason he majored in Social Studies and minored in English while working towards his Bachelor of Education Degree at the University of Alberta. Within months of graduating from university, Shane packed up his belongings and moved to South Korea to begin exploring the many diverse cultures he was interested in. During his time in South Korea Shane worked as an English teacher for two different English Academies as well as for the Seoul Metropolitan Board of Education, where he helped write the English Curriculum for the world’s second largest city. In between his contracts in Korea, Shane went travelling to many countries in East Asia, South America, Europe, and the Caribbean. During his travels Shane studied various languages, including Korean and Spanish. He also studied German in High School and University. While travelling Shane was most interested in exploring and learning about the everyday lives of individuals in the culture, preferring to travel by local buses and motorcycles rather than with a tour. During these experiences Shane learned about the many ways language and culture influence people, and he has taken these lessons to heart. Shane applies this understanding to his teaching now that he has returned to Canada and settled in Vancouver. He hopes that students will take the opportunity of living in Vancouver to not only learn a language, but also learn about many cultures!

Patricia Jagt

Instructor

Patricia was born and raised in and around the Toronto area. She is a first generation Dutch-Canadian and was exposed to the Dutch language and culture throughout her childhood. She grew up in an environment where all forms of creativity were encouraged. Throughout High School and University, she was often involved in Humanitarian Projects in the developing world. She has spent a considerable amount of time in Bolivia, Brazil and Panama teaching English, Art, Cooking and Music (while not playing soccer and dancing). She learned to speak Spanish fluently throughout her travels and this has influenced her academic career. Patricia graduated University with a double major in Honors Studio Art (Painting) and Spanish Literature. When she is not teaching English, you might find her teaching Spanish to groups or individuals planning to go overseas. For her, language is an important form of art. Every language has rules and regulations that act as a foundation for personal expression unique to each individual. Patricia looks forward to helping you discover your own unique voice.

Kathryn Quinlan

Instructor

Katie is originally from South Africa, and immigrated to Canada in 1995. She is a native English speaker, and has had the wonderful opportunity to travel and live abroad for most of her life. She has been working within the ESL community for four years now. She first started as a House Parent for foreign students at a private boarding school in Victoria British Columbia. This is where her interest in teaching ESL began. After being inspired by fellow colleagues and students, she embarked on an exciting journey towards becoming certified ESL Instructor. Her first experience teaching was in Wenzhou, China, where she lived and travelled for almost one year. After returning to Canada she ventured to find more exciting teaching opportunities, and is now an enthusiastic addition to the CET family!
